“YOUTH DEBATES FOR NK CONFLICT RESOLUTION”

Society for Humanitarian Research is local NGO that intends to implement a project aimed at raising the confidence in peaceful resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) conflict among youth, increasing their knowledge in conflict resolution process and encouraging young people to analyze the conflict from different sides. 200 young people from Baku, Barda, Ganja, Gazakh, Agdam, Yevlakh and Sumgayit will be selected (based on thir background and activeness) to participate in 7 debates (one in each city) devoted to NK conflict resolution. After this, the most active young people will be trained by the experts on conflict resolution for further participation in simulation games. The organization also plans to present documentaries on various conflicts in different countries from Prague Film Festival. The conclusing event of the project will be “Ideas Exhibition” where different art pieces devoted to conflict resolution will be shown.

Debates enabling the citizen’s active participation in the solution of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict

SHR embarked on holding the debates for creating condition for an active participation of the citizens in the Nagorny Karabakh conflict in the mass media since January,2009. In the 1st phase articles on various topics were published in “Azadlig” newspaper. In the 2nd phase debates dedicated to the topical issues of the NK conflict and negotiations process were held. Debates involve the topics reflecting various aspects of the conflict. The partner of the project is International Alert.

Everything is all right in Baku. The negotiations are being held in Armenia and Turkey.

Simulation game “Nagorny Karabakh conflict”

SHR and NISA (NATO International School in Azerbaijan) jointly organized Simulation game on “Nagorny Karabakh conflict” on 28-29 November. 30 persons from various universities and representatives of NGOs attended the Simulation.

 

The youth played the roles of the leaders by defining their influential resources and analyzing the overall situation around the Nagorny Karabakh conflict in the context of the South Caucasus and the region. The participants of the event were awarded with certificates.

 

The Institutional Support Project of Society for Humanitarian Research

 

SHR launched the project “The Institutional Support of SHR ” in 2009 by financial support of Open Society Institute - Assistance Foundation (Azerbaijan) Information on the programs and projects carried out, the works accomplished in the direction of human rights and the solution of the conflict by SHR is being given to the activists and partners from Baku, Gandja and Barda.

 

The development of www.humanrights-az.org is one of the main components of the project and it enabled to provide the regions with the information about human rights.A training on delivering information effectively by using social networks and internet casting services was held to the activists and paertners of the organisation.

 

Holding meetings on Euro integration topics with the youth

  

SHR regularly held meetings in 2009 dedicated to European Union and Azerbaijan relations among the youth. Such a next meeting on “European and Azerbaijani notion” was held on 23 December,2009 by SHR, Euro Integration National Committee and Open Society Institute Aid Fund. A philosopher Rahman Badalov responded the questions of the young people and debates over the European values were a subject of the topic.

 

 

 

2008

 

Master Classes for journalist's and young human rights activistes on Human Rights in Lenkaran

The Society for Humanitarian Research conducted Master Classes on Human Rights, Conflict Transformation and Gender Issues in Lenkaran. The classes were organized for local representatives of human rights organizations and mass media in 28-30 November 2007, and were financially supported by the South Caucasus office of Henrich Boell Foundation. 25 participants from Lenkaran took part in the event and the total number of participants of the master classes reached 80, as the similar events had already been organized in Baku and Ganja.
